Why?

Why do we do the things we do? Sometimes what we do is thrust upon us, demanded of us or directed.

When I was a kid there was a lot we did because “Mama said.”

I recall when I had outgrown going out for Halloween, and one of my younger sisters still wanted to go. They were safer days, but my mother said that I had to follow her and not lose sight of her. I had to stay hidden behind Rosalie without her seeing me. All went well until she came to one door where I could not see her very well. I climbed up into a nice tree that was near the sidewalk. I had a good sighting. Then three adults came by and just happened to light up a cigarette and started chatting right under me without seeing me. Rosalie came out and headed up the street. I panicked and jumped out of the tree because I was losing sight of Rosalie. Mama said “not to lose sight.” As far as I know, the three adults probably thought I was a Halloween Banshee!

When I was in the Air Force I helped fight a nearby forest fire because the squadron commander said, “We are going to help the community.” So that’s “why” we joined the fire fight. Keep the community in sight.

Why do the Sun City Poms march as they do? The women of Sun City Poms say that they “aspire to inspire before we expire.” That’s WHY they do what they do.

Why do we do the things we do for the Church?

Our Church tells us to “Know, Love and Serve God in this life and be happy with Him in the next." ”Don’t lose sight of your mission."

WHY are you on your Mission? Only you can answer that.

Pope Francis said,

“I am a mission on this earth; that is the reason WHY I am in this world.”

So maybe that is why “WE” are in this world.

Maybe your mission is to one person in the whole world. That is your mission.

Remember, be persistent; don’t lose sight of the WHY! Why me? Why not?
