Listening for God in the Ordinary (Fr. Eric's Huddle Up)

Dear Friends,
Our Formation registration continues this weekend after all our Masses. Formation is the word that best describes how we become disciples of Jesus Christ, formed by the Word of God, community life, and the Holy Spirit. Formation is ongoing and continues for our entire life. The homily this weekend will help us become more aware of all the formation that is done and offered by the parish for all ages, from the littlest child to the oldest adult. After the Masses, our formation staff will be in the Narthex to offer guidance, answer questions, and meet everyone.
LIGHTING IN THE CHURCH BUILDING IS BEING REPLACED THIS WEEK- Our lighting system has needed to be replaced for quite a while. We now have the company, resources, and staff to help improve the lighting in the church. The Daily Mass Chapel will see some improvement as well. We plan to take the old lighting fixtures and place them in Fenlon Center to improve the lighting in Fenlon also.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD AND YOUNG DISCIPLES RETURN THIS WEEKEND- The 8:30 and 10:30 am Sunday Masses are where we offer these two opportunities for children. The children are called forth after the opening prayer for Children’s Liturgy of the Word and are sent forth to hear the scriptures on their level. This is for children up to grade 5. The children return during the offertory. Young Disciples is for the younger children; they will remain in their room until the end of Mass. Parents are welcome to accompany their children to the rooms if needed.
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY AUGUST 15- This year, the feast day falls on a Saturday, so the Church does not require special Masses to celebrate the feast day, since it falls during the weekend. For those wanting to honor this beautiful Feast Day of Mary, they may attend the 4:30 pm Saturday Mass to offer their prayers.
EARTHQUAKE IN COLOMBIA- Another major earthquake in South America, this time in Colombia. To offer financial donations, we have a link to the Catholic Relief Services webpage showing how to support the people in Colombia. This agency is one I personally support, as they have a good reputation for getting aid to those who directly need assistance. We remember them in our prayers.
PRAYERS FOR BISHOP JOHN DOLAN AND HIS FAMILY AT THE LOSS OF HIS FATHER- Jerry Dolan, the father of Bishop Dolan, died recently at the age of 96 years old. We keep Bishop Dolan and his family in our prayers.
LAST SUNDAY’S HOMILY- Elijah, a prophet, is running for his life, and people are not happy with his messages from God. In a cave, he is invited to listen to the Lord. Expecting God’s voice in a mighty wind, an earthquake, and fire, his voice was not there. It was in a simple whisper. God is not only experienced in spectacular or dramatic things, but God can speak to us through ordinary things and ordinary events. Giving honor and holiness to the ordinary things in our lives is my invitation to remember. Listen to the homily by clicking the button below.
