Dear Friends,
The season of Advent begins a new liturgical cycle for Christians as we prepare for the season of Christmas. Preparing the way of the Lord has been a traditional call of Advent as we recall the first coming of the Christ. There is great joy at this time of year. We can also prepare to celebrate by realizing we can be released from things that keep us from that joy, such as when we struggle with selfish ways, wounding relationships, failing to see the needs of our neighbors and responding. To be released from such ways is freeing us to live in that joy. This is how we can approach the penitential part of Advent because Christ comes to free us from such things. I hope this invitation will inspire many parishioners and others to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation this Advent.
