First Down with Fr. Eric (August 10, 2025)

Dear Friends,

Words can capture the fullness of what needs to be done to reach the full potential of what is desired. An example is the world of Religious Education. It can sometimes give the impression that one graduates from education about our faith. One does the grade levels, one receives the sacraments on a timetable, and one says there is really nothing more to learn about one’s faith.

The word we use is formation. We form disciples of Jesus Christ, not only having one remember the rules and doctrine, but forming the lives of everyone. It does go hand in hand, and the heart and soul of the people are meant to be inspired and touched to be committed to following Jesus.

For the next three weekends, our formation staff members will be present at all Masses to welcome parents and their children, offering more information about our formation programs for children from the youngest to the young adult. They will answer questions and offer support and direction. I am glad they will be present on those weekends to meet and welcome all who inquire about faith formation.

Parents, just a reminder to let Jesus be the center of your family. That means there are many things to accomplish and do for family members, but we have resources available to take with you to help with the formation of your children, if, for some reason, there is a serious conflict. We have helped so many families over the years to form their families with good resources. I also invite families who have the blessing to send their children to Catholic schools to know that they are receiving a great education to be leaders in the church. Their presence in our formation programs will help them use their knowledge and service in the greater community. To be connected to the community and faith family is a great goal for Catholic school formation.

Families, we want to accompany you on your journey as you raise your families. We want to assist, we want to be flexible as you will be, and we want all to have a good experience in being challenged to be a disciple of Jesus.

Peace in Christ,

Fr. Eric
